ow well do you know your Perth history? Did you know, for example, that AK Bell Library used to be an infirmary?
The building was designed by William Mackenzie (1997 - 1856). It was opened in 1837 as the Country and City Infirmary. It was the main hospital for the district until 1914 when Perth Royal opened. During WWI it was a Red Cross Hospital. It was then used for council offices until it became a library in 1994. Want to know more about Perth, there's a selection at the 'history' section at the library. |
